Marring humanity (freeform)

greed-dollar

Irritating box of bits and pieces
Cookies, viruses, programs and sleazy spam,
logins, passwords, endless pop-ups
causing perpetual perturbation.

Vacillating human condition
politics, extremists, thieves and crooks,
excuses, retaliation, turf wars
only add to our escalating degradation.

Capitalism fuels our society
buying, hoarding, monopolizing and greed
homelessness, starvation, desperation
blaring for help on every device.

Vying for the latest technology
faster, stronger, expensive and tempting
credit woes, foreclosure, bankruptcy
Disposable money begets a mother lode of chattel and woe.

Poetry site’s to get inspired by:)

onewildword

In honor of National Poetry Month, here are three poetry websites I subscribe to and why:

Academy of American Poets at www.Poets.org.  I lead a busy life, so I especially love receiving the poem of the day in my email. I may not have time to peruse the entire site each day, but I do have time to open an email and read the poem of the day. I feel as if I’m enriching my life a poem at at time.

Getting Inspired (Nonet)

ballet view

Where do you get your inspiration?

Patterns, nature, a bright color,

Birds, words, a musical note!

Pen to paper scribbling

Thoughts and images

Formulating

Your vision

For the

World.

Breakfast (Acrostic)

cinnamon roll coffee

Basking in the aroma of fresh baked cinnamon
Rolls and coffee, I sighed deeply for it was
Early morning.  Scanning through
Another section of the newspaper, I can hear the
Kids slurping down the remains of their
Fruit-flavored cereal as I start to
Assemble their lunches. Once complete I rush to
Send everyone out the front door
Throwing kisses and backpacks to hurry-scurry kids.

Fish’n

sea cucumber

Setting out to catch some fish
I needed something for the main dish.
I outfitted my line with the latest rig
hoping to catch something rather big.

A nice fat salmon from the lake,
was what I wanted to take
for dinner tonight would be a fryin’
and the hosts’ tale wouldn’t be lyin’.

As my mind began to wander,
on delightful foods to ponder,
I felt a bite on my line
Oh yes, that salmon will be mine.

I tugged and pulled every which way
muttering aloud for it to sway
till finally, the sea let go of its treasure
how big was this fish, I would measure.

My line burst from the water, up toward the sky
my stomach lurched and I felt like I was gonna die
as I gave my prize a long hard look
’twas not a salmon on my hook!

Staring hard at this ugly mound
I could not bring this homeward bound.
For what I snagged from its aquatic slumber
was but an ugly sea cucumber!

Recovering Heart (Freeform)

Red heartBlack as night, empty as the sky.
My thoughts don’t move me tonight.

The water under the bridge has caused so much
damage, there is no time to work on it . . .
it just sits there helpless and broken.

The sun is coming up and it’s again a new day,
shining brightly, every so annoyingly.
The birds seem to swirl all around as everything
begins to turn upside-down.

My heart is full of so much pain, I wish
I could just disappear and forget.
Then I realize that it’s just another page
that has to be written, so I can be ready for
that which is around the corner.
